A TMJ CBCT is indicated in cases such as:
- A plain image is not diagnostic for the patient's case.
- TMJ pain, noises, and limitation of function where an alteration of the bony structures is suspected.
- Follow up of structural changes, such as joint remodelation, trauma, disease evolution, developmental or congenital disorders.
- Indicate reason of the scan.
- Indicate region of interest with size of field of view (a smaller field provides better resolution).
- Maxilla and mandible
- Limited to mandible
- Limited to maxilla
- Limited to TMJ
- Indicate is two images are required to have open and closed views of TMJ.
- If available, indicate machine of preference.
- Indicate if an occlusal guide is provided.
- Provide a written report:
- Narrative description of findings
- Include snapshots of following views
- Axial view
- Sagittal view
- Coronal view
- Panoramic reconstruction
- Selected volumetric images
